Canadian Gaming Summit Recap
Thank you to everyone (approximately 3,000 delegates from across Canada, the US, and Europe) who attended last week’s SBC Canadian Gaming Summit. We hope you enjoyed the conference sessions, networking events, and everything else you got up to!
Over three days we had the chance to learn about a range of topics (player protection, IMGL Master Classes, AML, payments, RG, advertising, marketing, sports betting, lottery, slots streaming, and many, many more) with a talented roster of speakers, however the big question that dominated the summit was “what will Minister Dale Nally say about the Alberta model?”
We did learn that Alberta will have an open and competitive market and that the model will largely follow Ontario’s, however that’s as much as was officially communicated. The government of Alberta did previously announce that it would undertake multiple consultations with various stakeholders this summer, so it could be the Fall before we learn more, although that won’t stop speculation. We were happy to welcome Minister Nally to our Member Briefing and Lunch on Tuesday, June 18, where he gave a brief presentation to CGA members. The CGA will continue to offer whatever assistance it can as Alberta works to develop its model.
As you begin to head off on summer holidays, we wish you a happy and relaxing time with friends and family. The CGA will continue to work on AML, our RG Guiding Principles and Code, and Bill S-269 over the coming months, and updates will follow as progress is made.
