The slots operating in Sudbury since 1999 has contributed just shy of $40 million to the city, money which has been invested in infrastructure development, as well as community programs and services.
The profits from the new Sudbury casino will continue to be shared between the province of Ontario and Gateway Casinos, irrefutable evidence that the province invests money in Sudbury. The debate of “should gaming exist in our community or not” has already come and gone, and the city can point to a long, profitable, and ongoing relationship with both the province and the OLG.
Gateway, quickly becoming a strong corporate citizen in Sudbury, is offering to make a $60-million investment in the city with the construction of a new casino as part of the $100-million entertainment complex at the True North/Kingsway location. This injection of private money and the ensuing infrastructure revitalization would be a positive new addition to tourism, and could be a catalyst in driving further economic development, revenues, and jobs in Sudbury.
